| Initially, everyone was the same. Gradually like all
things, this changed. First, the factory workers were reassigned to the lower levels
of the HeavanScrapers. Next came the Managers and low level businessmen.
Finally the servants of those in power. After the establishment of trade between
the Metros and Botanicas, those in power acquired the top floor greenhouses for
themselves. Those below can eat the food of the Botanica. Those above can eat
the food of heaven. Soon, those of the sprawl were only able to contact the
go-betweens of the upperlevels. The Middle class took on a whole new meaning.
The final nail in the coffin of equality was the poison cloud. A steady contempt
rose between those who worked and those who owned. Over the generations that came to
pass, these grudges have grown into full blown hatred.
The basic system flows as such:
The Above - the rich and powerful in the
Metros. They inhabit the highest levels of the HeavanScrapers. They never
venture below the poison cloud, unless desperately necessary.
Go-Gos - The mid-range in power.
These are the liaison between the Owners and those that live below. They
inhabit the area just above the Poison cloud.
Sprawlers - The workers of the Metros.
These are the common man. They carry on their lives the best they can.
Mostly this means surviving the hike to work, working, surviving the hike home, and
sleeping.
Herbs - Any member of the Botanica.
Thals - Anyone not from the Metros.
Slang for Neanderthals
The Spire holds no rank in this
structure. In fact, it pities those that live by it. Anyone is accepted in the
Spire, as long as you work hard and try to understand the world. Any such behavior
based on this system is quickly extinguished. The Spire has contact with all reaches
of life and is seen a benevolent faction in a hostile world. |
