Mo Jamal has been playing classical and traditional Persian music from an early age. After the Iranian revolution in 1979 he was forced to leave his homeland. He then continued his artistic endeavor in Europe, including France and Germany. In 1994 he immigrated to the United States and now resides in Austin, Texas. Mo Jamal achieved his particular style through combining Persian traditional-music with the techniques of classical and cotemporary Jazz violin. He compsed most of his pieces for solo violin. He believes he can express his soul more freely via a solo instrument rather than an orchestra. The music in this CD is based on one of the important Iranian classical modes ("dastgah") called "Mahur", which is performed here in D-Major. "Mahur" is identical to Western major scale and is one of the oldest Iranian "dastgah". In the future, Mo Jamal intends to perform all of the "dastgah" in his unique style. Rather than focusing on dejection, lowliness and self-blame that arise from Iran's long history of suffering invasions, Mo's music brings forth happiness, hope, dignity, glory and optimism.
