The year 2001....  For many of us older Modbury residents, this date conjurs up a fantastic
  science fiction future.  So this year, for its May Fair, Modbury celebrated a future where mankind
  is ruled by "damn dirty Apes!" to quote Charlton Heston in the classic Sci-fi movie, Planet of the Apes.

  As usual, the townsfolk of Modbury threw themselves into the spirit of things with great gusto - dressing
  up as Apes and primitive humans to recreate scenes from the classic movie for the carnival (See pictures
  below).
