How do I get to the meeting from I-65?

From I-65 you will need to turn off at Exit 5b and head West on Moffet Road (Hwy 98). You will turn left onto Forest Dell Road. The Clubhouse will be the 3rd building on the left. The entrance to the parking area is in line with the two maroon front doors on the front of the Clubhouse.

What happens at a typical meeting?

The typical agenda for a meeting begins with old business (like officer and committee reports), then onto new business (like introducing new members and guests, miscellaneous business items, upcoming events and field trips, etc.). After that there is a time for show and tell before the program begins.
Usually the program will include a lecture (by a member or guest speaker), a demonstration of some sort, a video or a workshop. Since the presentation will vary greatly, some will include only a few of these components and some will involve a little of everything!
After the program ends, the meeting is usually adjourned and that's when we have refreshments and socializing. At this time everyone has the opportunity to ask questions, tell stories, discuss upcoming events or possible activities and make new friends. Attendees are free to leave as they like, because there are some that can talk (and I do mean talk!):).

Who can join the Mobile Rock and Gem Society?

Membership is open to anyone 9 years old or older who is interested in Lapidary, Mineralogy, Paleontology, or other related Earth Sciences.

How much does it cost to join the Society?

The society has annual dues, they are:
Individual Adult = $15.00
Husband & Wife (or 2 Adults recieving 1 Cabber Gabber) = $25.00
Junior Member (ages 9-17) with Adult Member = $3.00
Independent Junior Member (ages 9 - 17) = $5.00

Can I get the Cabber Gabber without joining the Society?

Yes. A subscription to recieve the Cabber Gabber without membership within the society costs $7.00 per year. If you are in the area and able to attend a meeting as a guest, we encourage you to do so! You may just decide that the meetings, workshops, field trips and other activities are worth the extra fees! Click here to contact us for your subscription.
