 Meeting Minutes 2008

11/11/2008 Car Club Meeting

Bill opened the meeting and welcomed everyone for attending.  We had a great turnout with the following members in attendance: Ruth & Bruce Baker, Claire & Dick Berube, Dottie & Drew Betz, Nancy & Phil Carlton, Larry Collins & Janice Fernekees, Eileen & Dave Croteau, Muffet & Ed Crowell, Lou Dapas, George Gattozzi,  Cindy & Wess Gorman, Audrey & Bill Haworth, Howie Johnson, Bill & Linda Kelley, Nancy & Richard King, Dale McDaniel & Lea Wernau, Dave Merrill, Al Robblee, Rhonda Robblee, Carol & Don Tubbs and Rae & Norm Walker.

Bill introduced new members Patricia and David Riley from Otisfield. They own a 1926 Ford Model “T” Pickup and a 1935 DeSoto Airflow. Most likely many of you remember seeing their beautiful Pickup at some of the cruise nights this past summer.  Welcome Pat and Dave!

Thanks were given to Dick and Claire for hosting numerous pot luck meetings and the annual summer cookouts at their home the past few years.  Appreciation was also expressed for their dedication to the club during their term as President/Secretary/Treasurer. On behalf of the club a gift certificate was presented to them.

Thanks were also given to Muffet and Ed for talking to the owners of the Commons about using their facility as a meeting location.  It was stated we appreciated Bruce and Carlene’s willingness to open up for evening meetings.

Linda read the secretary’s report and a motion was made to accept the minutes as read.  Linda also gave the treasurer’s report: income from the 50/50 drawings since 9/11 was $509.00, Grand Raffle income was $2,440 of which $1,190 was profit.  As of 11/11 the  account balance is 5,791.57

Between our club members, Mt. Washington Valley club members and other old vehicle enthusiasts, 82 trucks/cars were in the Grand Parade.  Fryeburg Fair reimbursed us $410.  Special thanks were given to George, Marcella, Dennis, Richard and Nancy for registering and lining up the vehicles.  Marcella did an excellent job announcing the vehicles and owner’s names during the parade; and, Dick and Janice sold 39 grand raffle tickets that day alone!

Thanks was given to all club members who bought and sold raffle tickets.  As many of you know, Dave Croteau sold more than 70 tickets amongst his friends and family and his effort was much appreciated.

38 members attended our Christmas in October dinner.  The meal was excellent and the Yankee Swap a lot of fun.

It was referenced that at the last meeting Dennis Belanger talked about the Motor Menders booklet and recommended the club take out an ad in the 2009 publication.  Last year our car show and cruise-ins were listed in their book.  Taking out a 1/3 page ad might make our 2009 CAR SHOW stand out more.  A motion was made and accepted to take out an ad.

At the last meeting Pat Smart mentioned that the size of the club had grown considerably and with expanded activities such as weekly cruise-ins and an annual car show she suggested adding another board member.   Bill asked if someone would be willing to help out with publicity and said to see him after the meeting.  Muffett Crowell volunteered to assist with publicity.  Thanks Muffett for coming forward.

At the last meeting some club members volunteered to meet for the purpose of discussing the positive aspects of the 08 car show and discuss areas for improvement based on observations and feedback. A summary from that meeting was passed out to those in attendance and discussion took place. A draft copy of the 2009 Car Show flyer which was prepared by George Gattozizi and Dennis Belanger was distributed for feedback. A few modifications were suggested and the final car show flyer will be sent to members before the end of the year.

New business:

Bill asked for more members to serve on the Car Show Committee. Dennis Belanger, George Gattozzi and Drew Betz had previously volunteered.  Additional club members who volunteered are: Dave Croteau, Ed Crowell,  Al Robblee, Don Tubbs and Norm Walker.  A big thanks to them for coming forward.  Please note as we get closer to the event, the Committee will be asking more members to help out the weekend of the show.

Bill mentioned after our January meeting, committee members will be asked to call upon local merchants to solicit sponsors for awards.  However, in the meantime, if there are club members who may already know of a business that might be interested in sponsoring a class, please talk to them and get back to a committee member before the next meeting.

Dick spoke about the success of this year’s Grand Raffle and recommended the club do it again in 2009.  Dick agreed to be the chairperson of this fundraiser.  Thank you Dick.

A motion was made and accepted to adjourn the meeting.

Respectfully submitted, Linda Kelley, Secretary/Treasurer

If anyone notices any corrections, omissions etc., please let me know.

9/14/08
- Pleasant Mountain Chapter meeting minutes

Bill Kelley opened the meeting by thanking the Berubes for hosting the meeting at their home,  advised everyone that Claire was having Hip Replacement Surgery, welcomed everyone in attendance and asked Dick Berube to introduce new members Ken and Diane Roy from Center Lovell to the club.

Bill Kelley read the Mantra and highlighted the purpose of our club is to help others while we also enjoy ourselves and have fun!

Linda Kelley gave the treasurer's report.  From July 15 until September 14 the club had taken in 967.18 between 50/50 drawings, membership dues, and sold grand prize tickets.  As of the 14th, 147 tickets of the maximum 250 tickets had been sold and the total account balance was  5,789.89.

Bill reminded everyone about the Fryeburg Car parade on Saturday, October 4.  George Gattozzi and Dennis Belanger have volunteered to co-chair this event.  Please note this is an easy fundraiser for the club because the Fair will reimburse  the club $5 for every car that participates in the parade.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if 75% of our members would participate.  If you can attend, please plan to arrive at the fairgounds between 7:30 to 8am.    If you have any questions, please call George at 647-2321 or Dennis at 693-5511. Please note, if you participate in the parade you also gain entrance to the Fair.

The next agenda item was a reminder of the annual Christmas/turkey dinner at the Grange Hall in Harrison on Wednesday, October 8th.  The cost is the same as last year,  $12 per person.  If you have attended in the past you know the meal will be delicious.  We will end the night with a Yankee Swap.  Participants should bring a $5 gift swap and mark it male, female,  or any gender.   The deadline to respond is September 24.   Please call Linda at 647-4033 if you have any questions.

Bill Kelley asked Dennis Belanger to present information he had about the club doing an advertisement in the Motor Menders of Maine 2009 publication.  Dennis spoke about the booklet, mentioned our Car Show and Cruise-Ins appeared in their 2008 book,  and suggested the Club take an ad out in their 2009 publication.  This will come up for a vote at our next meeting.

Bill mentioned that he and Pat Smart had talked.  Pat suggested that the Club may want to have more than two members serving as officers especially where the club has grown so much over the past few years.  Bill stated Pat's suggestion was a good idea,  and he would welcome someone coming forward perhaps to serve as a membership or communications chairperson.  Please call Bill if you are interested; otherwise he will look for someone at the next meeting.

Bill informed everyone that a letter from Lake Region High School regarding their 2009 scholarship program had been received.  And, based on discussions held at last spring meetings,   the high school was advised that in 09 the Club would offer (2) $500 scholarships.

Bill talked about the need to get a small committee together to discuss suggestions to improve the 2009 Car Show to present to club members at the next meeting. Dennis Belanger gave some feedback he heard when he attended a car show(s) this season.    The following members volunteered to be on the committee:  Dick Berube, Dennis Belanger, Dave Croteau, Ed and Muffet Crowell and George Gattozi.  This committee will meet at the Kelley's before October.

Bill advised members in attendance that Ed Rock, General Manager of Shawnee Peak, was given a thank you plaque from the club for allowing us to hold the Car Show on their property.

Bill asked for New Business

The meeting was adjourned.  Linda Kelley, Secretary/Treasurer

If you have any comments/edits, please let me know.

May 18, 2008

Hello Everyone:

We had our meeting May 18th at our home. It was a good meeting. Dave Croteau and Bill Kelley let us know that the signs were made and ready.  Howie Johnson had someone that would print out the signs so that it would look professional.

Phil Douglass volunteered to get permission for the use of the field on the corner of 302 and Mountain Rd. to place our banners and Les Tilton’s fire-engine. Peggy Douglass volunteered  to call the Lake Region Vocational  Director to find out when the scholarship would be presented.

Some of our members attended the Bonnie Eagle Car Show and passed out flyers for our show. This Sunday the 25th, the American Legion in Naples on route 11 will be having their show. We will be attending, hope to see other members there to give them our support.

This week Linda Kelley will be sending out the invitations for the trophy sponsors.  Dave Croteau brought to the meeting the Grand Raffle tickets.  We congratulated Dave because he already had 30 tickets sold.

We received more prize donations. I received calls from members who could not attend our meeting that more will be coming in. Donations for our show raffles have been harder to get this year due to the economy. If anyone knows someone who might be willing to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.

Everything seems to be running smooth for the show.

REMINDER: This Wednesday the 28th is our first cruise night for the season at Beef & Ski. See you all there!!!!!

Our next meeting and pot luck supper will be Thursday May 29th at 6:pm. Please let me know if you will be attending and what you will be bringing.  This way I know if we have enough casseroles and desserts.

This could be our last meeting before the show. We are looking forward to having has many of our faithful members to participate so we can make sure all our plans are in order.

Sincerely,

Claire Berube

April 28, 2008

Hello Everyone!

We had another successful pot luck dinner/meeting last Sunday. It was well attended and made more progress towards our show. We had some of our Florida snowbirds return home and it was nice to see them.

I called Debbie Day from Kezar Falls trophies and gave her the correct order of the sponsors names. She said our ribbons were also in. Linda Kelley was putting together a letter inviting the sponsors to our show, so they can present their trophies to the winners.

Dick met a gentleman who works at the TV cable station  and mentioned our show.  The man said he would be pleased to run 30 second flashes everyday, 2 to 3 weeks before the show. It would cover Norway, Oxford and surrounding areas. Approximately 30 thousand viewers. How great is that?

I have prepared 2 picture frames of our cruise nights at Beef & Ski and a picture frame on our Mantra. We will present them to Peter on Wednesday 28th, our first cruise night. I did mention it to him and he was very pleased. He will also display our brochures and flyers.
It would be nice if you could take some time and stop in to see Peter and have a bite to eat before our first cruise night. That would bring a BIG SMILE to his face, he would really enjoy that.

Reminder: Your dues for 2008 can be paid anytime before the show.  This $10.00 membership fee is your entrance to our show.  You do NOT have to pay the $5.00 entrance fee. I have received extra and have returned the $5.00.

I have received calls from members who cannot make our meetings but do want to help with the show. Thank you.

This Saturday May 3rd, a group of us will be meeting and leaving from our home at 11:00am sharp and traveling to Intervale, NH to Back to the 50’s Collectibles & Memorabilia at Art Lee Floor Covering. Rt 16/302.  Come with us and view some Automobilia, kitchen items & décor, prints & tin signs, books & toys, reproduction booths & tables. Opened from 12 to 4. There phone # 603-986-2354. They will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages.

Our T-shirts are in. The only difference with last years (no year on the back) We do have a few left over from last year. X-large, large and medium for $6.00 each, 2 for $10.00.
The new ones $10.00 for members only and $12.00 for public.

We have received donations from Dunkin Donuts, Magic Lantern, Lake Region Auto Supply, Maine Fish & Game, Key Bank, Roxie’s, Ken’s Cove, Beauty & Beyond and Bridgton Books. Norm Walker has donated some more ditty bags and items from All-State insurance. A big thanks for all who are helping in this endeavor.

Bonnie Eagle Car show will be May 18th.  A group of us are planning to attend and pass out our flyers for our show. If you attend you can help by spreading the word.
American Legion in Naples is also having a show on May 25th. Again what a great time to pass out flyers.

We had 3 trophies left over from last year (motorcycle class). We will be using them  for Modified trophy, Oldest car, Furthest traveled. These were sponsored by Howie Johnson (New England Rod & Restoration). We have been promoting the motorcycle class so hopefully we will have some in attendance.

Our next pot-luck/meeting will be held Sunday,May 18th at 6:00pm. Give us a call if your coming and an idea of what you will be bringing for dinner.

We have enclosed a copy of our pre-registration form.  We are asking all our members who plan on entering to fill out this form and mail it to us.  This will help in the preparation. If you have already sent yours in pass it on. We have also mailed forms to non-members who attended our show last year.

Have a great week and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

April 14, 2008

Hello Everyone!

It really feels good to be back home in Maine.  We had a wonderful 3 month stay in Florida.  Can't say we missed the snow and the shoveling.

We definitely had a great turnout for our first meeting of the year.  Thirty-one people were at the pot luck dinner held at our home.  After dinner we got right down to business.  We had a lot to cover for the up coming show.

Dick thanked everyone for coming and introduced our new members, Edward & Kathy Daley from Brownfield, ME.  Bill Kelley read our clubs mantra and I read the minutes from the last meeting of November 28, 2997.  Linda Kelley gave us the information pertaining to the $500.00 scholarship to be given to some deserving student.  We're looking forward to having (2) $500.00 awards next year.

Dick mentioned the fact that Bob Hatch, president of the Mount Washington Valley Club has had 2 cancellations for the overnight weekend cruise to Boothbay Harbor and a lobster feast on Cabbage Island for a fee of $332.00 a couple.  As of this date we have placed 1 cancellation,.  If anyone is interested call Bob Hatch at 207-935-2081.  A few of us from our club joined Bob last year and had a great time.  It's a great way to get to meet other club members.

I called Debbie from Kezar Falls trophies and they will be ready for us.  She is just waiting for the names of the sponsors.  Linda Kelley suggested that we invite the sponsors to our show and they could present their own trophy to the winners. Great Idea!

It was suggested to purchase our hamburgs, hot dogs, etc. from BJ's or find another good source, maybe where Shawnee Peak purchases.

The show advertisement will be published in the Portland Press Herald, Moose Prints, Citizen Forum, Northern Lights, Community News, Advertiser/Democrat, Brdgton News, Hemmings Motor News (magazine and network) and Old Car Trader.  The Bear Facts has retired.  I will be contacting the Brownfield & Fryeburg gazettes and 96.3 radio.  Dick has also notified surrounding clubs.

Peter, the owner of Beef & Ski has  made some attractive changes in his establishment.  He has 2 large banners promoting our Wednesday night cruises, 1 inside and 1 outside.  He would love to have our group meet there on a Sunday afternoon to get the momentum started before May 28th.  Not a bad idea!  What would be nice to place in the restaurant is a sign of our Mantra and assorted pictures of our activities and brochures.  This would be a great way to promote the club.

Dave Croteau will be making up our tickets for our GRAND RAFFLE, which will be drawn after the Fryeburg Fair parade.  There will be 250 tickets printed, and sold for $10.00 each.  First place winner will receive $1,000.00, second place $150.00, third place $100.00 and (2) $50.00 winners.  the odds of winning are very good.

A BIG, BIG thank you go out to Don Tubbs, George Gattozzi and Bill Kelley who went out and got our sponsors.  More than 80% of the money has been received for the trophies.

Your dues for 2008 can be paid anytime before the show.  This $10.00 membership fee is your entrance to our show.

Our appreciation party for all the helpers of the show, is scheduled for Sunday July 6th at our home.  We had a great time last year despite the rain.

Don't forget to check our internet updates at:  www.geocities.com/moalpmchapter/brochure.html .  We can give this credit to Nancy King for helping us with this.

Les tilton has volunteered his Firetruck displaying a baner promoting our show.  It will be set up in the field on the corner of 302 and Mountain Rd.

If you know of anyone who would like to rent a spot for sales of goods, please let us know.  We have plenty of room.  There will be a $10.00 charge.

Dave Croteau and Bill Kelley have volunteered to make wooden signs for the car classes.

We have had some donations for our raffles:  Magic Lantern, Lake Region Auto Supply, Dunkin Donuts and Beef & Ski.  Cindy Gorman will be covering all of Maine St., Bridgton, from the monument to Food City.  Marilyn Delo will be covering in Harrison.  Audrey Haworth and Kathy Daley will cover Fryeburg and Brownfield.  PLEASE CONTACT ME IF ANYONE RECEIVES A DONATION SO THAT I MAY PLACE IT IN OUR MINUTES, SO NOT TO DUPLICATE ANY REQUESTS.

Our next meeting and pot luck supper will be Sunday April 27th at 6:00pm.  Give us a call if you are coming and an idea of what you will be bringing for supper.  It's a big, big help.

If you can't make it to our meetings, but would like to help at the show, please notify us.

Have a great week,
Dick & Claire Berube, 207-647-3387  cell: 207-952-0370  E:Mail: [email protected]

November 28, 2007

Hello Everyone!

We hope everyone had the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends.  We drove to Massachusetts, got caught up in that traffic.  Couldn’t wait to get back home.

We had our last meeting of the year on November 18th.  I read the minutes of the last meeting and the treasury report.  As of today our balance ending the year is $2568.21.  We had our 50/50 drawing.  The winter was Wes Gorman and he returned the winnings to the club.  Thank you Wes & Cindy.

As you know we still had not signed the contract with Point Sebago Resort for our 2008 show.  There were issues that we were not comfortable with and could not be resolved.  To our rescue came our member George Gattozzi.

George, Dick & I met with Ed Rock, General Manager of Shawnee Peak Ski Mountain on Friday, November 16th.  Ed has given the club the opportunity to have our 2008 car show held there.  They have enough room for 350 cars on hot top.  Plenty of parking for observers.  The use of there Ticket booth to hold our supplies, count ballots, etc.  In front of the booth is a raised platform for Les, our DJ. They will supply all the barriers that’s needed and will dispose of any trash.  They will post our fliers during the winter months, and place our advertisement on their web site.  We can place a sign on 302 in the field, days in advance.  That’s a big PLUS!  NO CONTRACT needed.  Just a good old fashion hand shake.  Shawnee Peak will be sponsoring the BEST OF SHOW trophy.

The show date for this year will be Sunday June 8th with a 2 hr cruise night on June 7th.  We had to have it on Sunday due to a wedding on Saturday.  Ed said we could have it on Saturday but we felt it would interefere with the wedding.  We will have a rain date (pouring rain) on the following Saturday.

It was suggested to sell our own hamburgers and hot dogs.  Dave & Eileen Croteau volunteered to be the cooks.  I believe Chutes will be willing to serve coffee, hot chocolate and pastry.  They were delighted that Bill had asked them to come this year and said they would be willing to come next year.  Bill will be following up with them.

Dick & I went to Kezar Falls trophy and met with Debbie Day.  We ordered our trophies and ribbons.  A deposit was not necessary.  Debbie will deliver the trophies the day of the show and give us an invoice on the same day.  Debbie will be renting a space, and also sponsoring the trophies for the MUSTANGS.  The cost of the trophy sponsorship will be $65.00.

The charge for participants will be $8.00 per car for 2 people, and $5.00 charge for pre-registrations.  A charge of $5.00 for observers.  The members will be charged a $10.00 fee which will cover their 2008 dues.

Dick mentioned a great money raiser.  No more than 250 tickets will be sold for $10.00 each, and drawn at the Fryeburg Fair Parade.  First place wins $1,000.00, second place wins $150.00, and third place wins $100.00.  The odss of winning are good and hopefully will attract buyers.

Enlcosed is a copy of the flier so we can all start getting our donations for prizes and donations for our ditty bags.  Beef & Ski will be sponsoring Special Interests.

Don Tubbs said he will start in February for trophy sponsors.  If you get any trophy sonsors please notify Don as soon as possible.  His pone number is 693-4675, cell 415-1926 & E-Mail [email protected].

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  Our next meeting will be on April 13, 2008, potluck at 6pm.

Till then Dick & I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.
