I am writing in response to your article on tattoos, and why they are not for Jews. I am a Jew, and having lately been thinking about a tattoo. What I was thinking about was getting the Star of David put upon my bicep as a way to honor all of my fellow Jews who during the Holocaust era were forced to wear one. I understand what the Torah states but I am in the belief that we are to use it as a guide to one's life as opposed to a set in stone(no pun intended) set of laws. I am very up in the air about it and welcome any thoughts that you might have.
Thanks for your time.
Hello,
Did you read the "Star of David Tattoo" letter at
http://www.geocities.com/mnlerner2000/let034.html ?
If not, please take a look.
I would like to suggest an alternative way of honoring
over fellow Jews who suffered and/or perished during
the Holocaust.
The Nazis wanted to obliterate the Jewish people.
"They said: 'Come, and let us cut them off from being
a nation; that the name of Israel will not be remembered'"(Psalms 83:5).
They ruthlessly
murdered millions of our brothers and sisters in order to achieve that goal.
The best thing we could do for all of those Jewish lives that were cut short
is to live our lives in the fullest way as Jews.
In order to do so
we must learn what it means to be Jewish. We must learn what the Jewish
People are, what Torah is, and how they relate to us as individuals.
This is a much more serious matter than going to a tattoo parlor.
It requires one to invest a lot time and effort, but believe me, it is worth it.
If you are interested in discovering what Judaism is all about
there are some pretty good sites on the web.
I listed some of these sites under "Torah Learning and Judaism" at
http://www.geocities.com/mnlerner2000/spread.html .
Be a living memorial for those who died sanctifying G-d's name by
living a life that sanctifies G-d's name!
