1969 ABC wins the Monday Night Football contract for $8.5 million from the
National Football league.

1970 September 21 -- The first game of Monday Night Football is played with a record-setting attendance of 85,703- Cleveland Browns vs. New York
Jets. Howard Cosell, Keith Jackson, and Don Meredith give play-by-play.

1972 Monday Night Football's second-season ratings skyrocket, posting an
average weekly rating of 20.8.

1985 ABC merges with Capital Cities Communications, Inc.

1986 Al Michaels joins MNF as play-by-play announcer

1992 Disneyland Paris opens

1992 Disney releases the movie The Mighty Ducks

1993 Disney invests in an NHL expansion team, naming it the Mighty Ducks, after one of their own movies

1994 Disney releases the movie Angels in the Outfield

2000 Ratings decline sparks ABC to hire Dennis Miller to the MNF broadcast

2000 Redskins are the highest paid team of 2000.  They play three Monday Night Football games, more than any other team that year.

2002 Continued ratings problems force ABC to fire Dennis Miller and replace
him with John Madden, who leaves FOX to sign a 4 year deal with MNF

2002 September 11.  Johnny Unitis passes away.

2002 Anaheim Angels are World Series Champions, defeating the San Francisco
Giants

2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat the Oakland Raiders to become the 2002-2003 season Super Bowl Champions

2003 Melissa Stark leaves MNF to have a baby, is replaced by former LA Rams Cheerleader Lisa Guerrero, who leaves FOX's "Best Damn Sports Show."

2003 Disney sells Anaheim Angels to Billboard magnate Arturo Moreno
