The
2001 season has many incongruities. The home team does not win
an unusual amount of times, unlike the 2000 season. You would
expect the NY teams to come out on top to lift the spirits of New Yorkers.
But Disney, always the ruthless control freak, decides to make
things play out their way. This season may or may not be entirely
rigged, we're not sure (unliked the 2000 season), but we offer some
theories for each game if they were rigged.
Notes
For the first time since 1997, there were no changes in the booth.
For the fourth straight year, the Denver Broncos kicked off the season
on Monday night.
The Baltimore Ravens made their franchise's first MNF appearance on
Nov. 12 against the Titans. The first game in Baltimore was played on
Jan. 7, 2002. It was the first MNF game in Baltimore since the Colts
hosted Washington on Nov. 6, 1978.
Week
1
NY Giants 20
Denver 31
This was the highest rated game of the season, with 13.2 percent of
the viewers. Denver kicks off Monday Night Football's season for the
fourth straight season. Anyone who so regularly supports riggery shall
be rewarded.
Week
2
Washington 0
Green Bay 37
What Washington did to deserve all of this punishment, we're not really
sure. But whatever it was (hired Deion, refused riggery at some point,
etc.), it made ABC angry at a ferocious level. They didn't even let
the 'Skins score
Week
3
San Francisco 19
NY Jets 17
It's really tough to ask a team from New York (and from Washington,
for that matter) to win a game after what happened in those cities on
September 11 of this season.
Week
4
St. Louis 37
Detroit 0
What better way to make things up to the Rams for last year's rigged
playoff game than letting them pound the heck out of poor Detroit (who
needs a little spending money to get their program out of the gutter)?
Week
5
Washington 7
Dallas 9
The poor, poor Redskins. Even "America's Team" takes you down
in front of a national television audience. It's time to get a new coach
in Washington. One that will easily accept the riggery. By the way,
Washington on MNF this season: 0-2.
Week
6
Philly 10
NY Giants 9
The record for teams from New York to this point: 0-3.
Week
7
Tennessee 7
Pittsburgh 34
Tennessee
simply being repaid for the luxurious Monday nights they enjoyed last
season.
Week 8
Denver 28
Oakland 38
Denver loses to avoid appearing too much like a "teacher's pet."
Week 9
Baltimore 16
Tennessee 10
Welcome back to Earth, Titans.
Week 10
Giants 16
Minnesota 28
New York teams go 0-4 on the season. Disney has no real intentions of
making them work too hard when their city has been through so much.
Week
11
Tampa Bay 24
St. Louis 17
A
rematch of last season's extremely rigged contest. MNF may not have
had to write a script for this one. People would have probably tuned
in regardless, expecting another great game.
Week
12
Green Bay 28
Jacksonville 21
Jags
need money. Let Mickey help.
Week
13
Indianapolis 6
Miami 41
MNF
making up for the Dolphins taking a dive against Jets last year in one
of the most rigged games in history.
Week
14
St. Louis 34
New Orleans 21
This
was a repeat of the contest between the Saints and Rams that St. Louis
was rigged to lose in last season's playoffs. It's obvious ABC is patching
up the relationship. After all, those who rebelled against the riggery
a year ago are now out of the league (conveniently)
Week
15 * Saturday
Tennessee 13
Oakland 10
Saturday
Night Football. May not have been rigged
Week
16 * Saturday
Baltimore 10
Tampa Bay 22
Another
Saturday night contest. It's tough to say if this game was rigged.
Week
17
Minnesota 3
Baltimore 19
Baltimore's all-time record in January: 2-0. Minnesota in January?:
0-5. Even Disney doesn't mess with history.
Superbowl
New England 20
St. Louis 17
A
"Patriotic" end to a difficult season for the teams of New
York, who deserved to win to uplift the spirits of the good people
of NY after the attacks. Disney, greedy as usual, gives the green
light to the New England Patriots, which encompasses more than just
one state.
