| Brain Injury Support Group Meetings for 2006 April 26 16 people attended. Business update: BIAW conference on May 8 & 9 @ the Kalahari Resort in Wis Dells. For more information: www.biaw.org After introductions and updates of survivors and families the support group session involved questions and concerns about individuals recoveries. Many addressed the challenges they have experienced and how they are dealing with hose challenges. We ended the meeting with a time for socializing and a dose of choc. chip cookies. March 26 21 people attended. We discussed the upcoming BIAW Conference on May 8 & 9 to be held at the Kalahari Resort in Wis Dells. After introductions and updates of those attending our guest speaker, Barb Michel, RN, C.C.A.P. Aromatherapist, spoke about the origin and methods used in aromatherapy. Barb then explained how the oils can be used for medicinal benefits to aid in the traditional use of medicine. She demonstrated how oils used in specific conditions such as depression, pain, memory loss, sleeping disorders, stress and mood swings can promote healing of a person's mind, body and spirit. Her presentation was very enlightening. The meeting ended with a time for socializing and refreshments. Febuary 22, 2006 Sixteen people attended. Topics of discussion were:: � The possibility of a Walk of Thought on Oct 7th in GB. � BIAW conference to be held May 8 & 9 at the Kalahari Resort in Wis Dells. � Expectations and needs of people attending the Support Group meetings. � Next meeting on March 22, 2006 During the introduction and update of survivors people shared the many similarities and differences of their recovery commenting about how they appreciate being able to gather together to for mutual support and expression. After a bit of socializing and refreshments, we adjourned at 8:30 PM. January 25, 2006 Thirty-five people attended. Many new faces this time. UW Madison is doing a TBI study researching the effects of TBI & vocations and is looking for people to participate in the study. Colleen is looking for feedback regarding having an aroma therapist as a guest speaker. Introductions and updates of survivors. Guest Speaker, Dr. Merle Teetzen, Neurologist, did a wonderful job fielding questions and concerns regarding post accident epileptic seizures, sleep disorders, personality changes. Dr. Teetzen also addressed the various treatments, rehabilitations, social and psychological concerns. He concluded by acknowledging that there is room for improvement as far as meeting the TBI patients needs. The meeting ended with a time of socializing. |
