As the sole provider of social services to the Chinese community in Minnesota, the MN Chinese Service Center's mission is to:
• Assist Chinese immigrants and refugees in their transition to American society
• Preserve the Chinese cultural heritage
• Promote the well-being of the Chinese community in
Minnesota

We strive to accomplish this by providing information and referral services, classes in citizenship and English language - particularly for older Chinese speakers, and organizing social and cultural events (for example Tai Chi classes.) The role of the MN Chinese Service is essential for the well-being of the Chinese community since we the only established organization that can provide social services in the Chinese language.

      In
Minnesota, there are Chinese student organizations, children’s language schools, and dance companies. However, MCSC is the only group offering just social services to the Chinese Community in a culturally specific manner.

Many newly immigrated and refugee Chinese find themselves needing assistance with with jobs, social services, language and citizenship, health and transportation. Many older Chinese find it difficult to learn English and pass the citizenship test, which are essential for living in the United States. Over the years, the number of Chinese needing social services have been increasing. The MN Chinese Service Center strives to provide assistance to those seeking help. Our goal for 2003 is to increase our visibility to the community and to establish ourselves as a place to go for help for the Chinese community.
