We got up to a very nice and hot day. Jen, Shayne and I caught a bus to Swindon and then another one to Oxford. Oxford has been a town since the Bronze Age. The Romans also lived in the area in the late 3 and 4th centuries. From there Oxford grew. We went to the Information Centre to have a look to see what to do in Oxford. We also saw the Bodleian Library. This library is the main research library for the University of Oxford. We went into the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin where we walked up to the top to see the view. This small church was built in 1280. It once housed the Oxford University's reference library and was used for degree ceremonies. We went for a walk down Board Street as well. where Bishops Latimer, Ridley and Cranner were burnt at the stake. We went onto the Covered Market where we found Borewors which was very expensive. Oxford has had a market since the 9th century. This market was built in 1773 though. In the 19th Century the building was rebuilt in parts. After all this we went to see the oldest building in Oxford. Feeling hungry by then we went to Burger King and had a burger. We then decided that we were going to go home. So off we went and by then it was so hot. We sat outside in the sun when we got home. Go to next page Go back to contents page Go back to home page |
