Michael's FreeBSD Link Page

Interested in FreeBSD? As a Linux user, I have grown to appreciate FreeBSD. At first, I found some of the configuration issues I took for granted in Linux to be difficult in FreeBSD. After reading the documentation, especially the FreeBSD Handbook, I have solved all of the configuration issues I have attempted. Installing from FreeBSD ports collection is great! I have a multi-boot system with FreeBSD, Ubuntu 6.1 Linux, Windows XP (I never use it, but keep it around in case someone wants or needs to use it). My computer stays booted into FreeBSD over 90% of the time, but I occasionally use Linux. I haven't found any tasks I need or want to do that I can't do on an AMD64 version of FreeBSD. After installing a number of operating systems and wiping out my bookmarks, I made this page to make it easier to configure after installation without searching for answers again. I consider these to be useful links regarding FreeBSD. I hope that you will find the links as useful as I have. Do you know a site that should be on this list? E-Mail me. These are a few places to start. Installation was a simple task. I downloaded iso images using bittorrent and installed with no problems.

DesktopBSD --A well done customized FreeBSD installation featuring KDE and DesktopBSD tools. DHCP seems to be broken, but I was able to install and use it because I had a router and the Internet worked as long as I was specifying my network information. Since then, I got rid of my laptop and the router. With no Internet connectivity in DesktopBSD, I booted into Linux and downloaded the iso forFreeBSD 6.2-RC1-amd64, burned a couple CDs and installed.

My Stuff:
Screenshot This is my computer running Window Maker while editing this web page. The background is Claude Monet's Houses of Parliament: Effect of Sunlight in the Fog 1904 (Le Parlement, trouée de soleil dans le brouillard) . I frequently switch window managers and backgrounds. WindowMaker has been my favorite window manager since I worked for an ISP and started using Linux in 1998.
This is another of my favorite backgound images. I got it from digitalblasphemy.com, the best source of backgrounds I have seen.
My Configuration files: Please do not copy them blindly. I sorted out the permissions for CUPS so that I can print, but haven't tested burning CDs or DVDs yet.
