Michael's Linux Link Page

Interested in Linux? I have used a number of Linux distributions since 1998. I started out with a Redhat 5.0 distribution. Why use Linux? I like the freedom of choices. Perhaps you shouldn't, but if you enjoy delving into how things work and are not afraid to experiment a little, it just may be for you too. After trying at least a dozen distributions, I installed Linux from Scratch. It was a good experience because I was able to learn about how the system worked. In the summer of 2005, I got a new computer and installed a distribution instead of building everything from scratch. Currently I have Ubuntu 6.1, Windows XP, and FreeBSD 6.2RC-1. installed on a multi-boot AMD64 system. This is a list of a few of the links I have found to be helpful to me in learning about Linux. If you have suggestions for other links that you think should be on this page, please send me an e-mail.

I recently reinstalled both Linux and FreeBSD because Ubuntu 6.1 updated and replaced this configuration file in a software update. I could only boot to Windows and Ubuntu Linux after the update. There was no data lost, but I started out fresh again. Thank you Ubuntu! I've learned not to allow automatic updates in Ubuntu and to keep a backup copy of configuration files somewhere else.
