COMPANY BOAT DISMANTLED

The Dungog Chronicle.

March 6, 1931.

The Alum Mining Co.'s drougher (a boat), which has been idle for some years, and lying at the chute, is to be dismantled and taken to the Myall Lakes where she will find rest on a sandbank. It became necessary, as the borers had done their work so well that there was eminent danger of leaks springing and sinking of the craft.

This would entail much expense, so the move to dismantle is a wise one. The agent, Mr. Gain, to whom this ship was a nightmare, will be pleased to get rid of the trouble.

Captain Tom Maybury, of the 'Balmain,' is entrusted with the work of the dismantling and towing the hull to its last resting place. So goes another link with the past in the alum industry of Bullahdelah.

LABOUR CONDITIONS SUSPENDED

The Dungog Chronicle.

May 19,1931.

Mention of an old shaft near Bullahdelah, opened by the Australian Alum Company between 70 and 80 years ago, was made at the Maitland Mining Warden's Court on Thursday when John Bradshaw and John W. Parker applied to Mining Warden Mr. Grahame for a suspension of labour conditions in this respect to the area. The application was granted, for the currency of the authority held by the party.

It was stated that, as a commencement to operations, the old shaft was being cleaned out, but time was needed in order to complete certain financial negotiations.

Mr. H. T. Skilton appeared for the applicants.
