Stroud Shire Council Report March 15, 1927. Australian Alum Co. wrote that it had relinquished a lease of 5 acres, 2 rods, Parish of Fens, in 1921, and inadvertently rates had been paid on it ever since. The letter requested a refund on the amount paid. - The Clerk said the amount was £12, and Council decided to pay that sum.
TOWN SUFFERS FROM MINE CLOSURE The Dungog Chronicle. March 15, 1927. Almost ever since the war, 1914, the Alum Mountain in Bullahdelah has been worked in a half-hearted sort of sometimes half-handed, other times only a couple of men on the job, but seldom ever has it been worked at its full capacity. Recently, the works have closed down altogether, and at present no one is employed except the manager. The workmen have all gone to other parts in search of work, with a consequence that the town is suffering. It is a great pity that this company does not work this mountain of alum as it should be worked, because in no other part of the world is there such a rich deposit of the mineral.
