THE LETTERS OF RACHEL HENNING (1866) Rachel Henning first mentioned the mountain "Bulladilla" in a letter to her sister in 1866, written from the Myall River Settlement (as Bulahdelah was then known.) Rachel Henning was married 3/3/1866, and became Mrs. Deighton Taylor. In a later letter, written in October 1866, Mrs. Taylor speaks of "Bulladillah Mountain". In the same letter she speaks of the punt named "Bullahdeelah" also Mrs. Taylor first mentioned the name by which the aboriginals called the Myall River Settlement, saying: -
Bulahdelah Mountain was nicknamed Alum Mountain during the days of the mining industry.
It has had several different spellings over the years: -
PRESENT OFFICIAL NAME The Geographical Names Board settled on the updated spelling, Bulahdelah, of the original naming and uses Alum Mountain as the trig station on the small peak north of the main mountain. However, many people will still consider the mountain as Alum Mountain, and call the peak at the Devil's Elbow, west of Bulahdelah, the Bulahdelah Mountain.
