This book provides a glimpse into the history of the Alum Mountain, its sadness and its struggle to survive and provides a reference base to understanding how the alum mining industry affected our community.

 Malcolm P. Carrall

This is the first book of this size that I have written for the Bulahdelah & Districts Historical Society Inc. Its compilation has given me the opportunity to gain much more insight into the history of the Alum Mountain.

The articles in this book have been copied from previously published articles from early newspaper reports, therefore all spelling is as originally printed.

The following people have kindly contributed to the compiling of this book and I would like to acknowledge them for their time and support. These people have been of enormous help to me and to all of them, thank you very much for helping make this publication possible

Mr. Ian McNeill - for articles he contributed.

Mr. Kevin Carter - for updated reports on the management of the mountain.

Mrs. Del Wade - for her assistance with typing and photocopying.

Mr. Colin Wear - for newspaper articles on the history of the mountain.

Mrs. Mary Wear - for newspaper articles on the history of the mountain.

Mrs. Betty Bramble -for her assistance with the editing of this book.

I hope you gain as much pleasure from reading this book as I did from compiling it.
