THE RIDE TO REMEMBER

The Ride was co-sponsored by the INOVA Health System and the Fairfax County Police.  Proceeds went the the INOVA Health System Foundation for child injury prevention and trauma care.  The majority of the riders were law enforcement.  Only 16 of us were firefighters, one fourth of which was the four of us on Team Arlington Fire.
Greg checks-in and receives his new helmet; we had yet to meet, but we would soon become fellow 'Puffenburger's (see day three...)

GROUND ZERO FROM ACROSS THE HUDSON RIVER

Our hotel the first night was the Jersey City Hyatt (above), which is across the river from 'Ground Zero'

The twin towers used to stand just behind and to the right of these buildings (right); their loss left a huge gap in the New York skyline
GROUND ZERO

The visit was very moving.  Randy, who we met on the bus, suggested that we visit 'Ground Zero' on the evening of the 7th.  It's a good thing that he did, because on the morning of the 8th we rode out of Battery Park, which is blocks away.

We took a ferry across the Hudson River and back.  Our stop was not on the schedule coming back, but the crew was very accomodating and took us back to where we came from.
These pictures were taken by a fellow rider before sunset; my photos taken after sunset did not come out, eventhough the area was lit like a stadium
