Tractor Cab - Just About Done
(10/31/2008)

The cab has been painted, reassembled, and has plexiglass installed.  Does a good job of blocking the wind, that's for sure!  Still needs a little finishing, a few canvas pieces to block holes and gaps where it doesn't fit tight to the tractor.  That was done on purpose to not have a weatherstrip or something rubbing on the green paint.

It's a little louder inside the cab.  Might try a heavy rubber floormat over the platform to block some of the sound coming up from below.  Not much else I can do.  I'll probably wear earplugs any time I need to run it wide open.

I also modified the snowblower to work with the new cab.  I removed the hand crank for rotating the chute and replaced it with a small 12V winch I had from a previous project (that failed).  A new chunk of cable was wound like the old manual rotator, but on the winch instead.  On the back wall of the cab, I installed an outdoor electrical outlet, complete with outdoor cover door.  That outlet was hooked to the winch control knob mounted to the back of the cab, right where it was convenient when backing up.  A male end was added to the winch leads.  That way, when I hook up the snowblower, I simply plug into the back of the cab to connect the winch to the control.  A little grease helped free up the chute, and the winch works great.  No more frozen arm for me!

Rear window with plexiglass.  Also electrical outlet for snowblower chute rotator (winch)
