Tractor Cab - Door and Window
(10/4/2008)

Fabrication complete on the LH door frame and rear window frame.

Both frames are made from 3/4" x 1/8" angle iron doubled up to form a "T" section.  One angle fits around the corner of the cab frame tubing to provide a flange for weatherstrip.  The other angle makes a flange for installing the window gasket.

The gas spings are short units from Surplus Center (Lincoln, NE).  They are supposed to be 45 lb units and have eyelet ends instead of ball ends.  On the cab frame, I drilled a hole into the tubing, then welded a 1/4" nut over the hole.  Using a bolt and jamb nut created the base pivot for the springs.  On the door or window frame, I welded a small tab for the other end.  Not too bad for $2 gas springs...

The rear window got a homemade handle/latch.  The door handle/latch is a unit for a screen door.  So far it works.  Looks like a tractor door handle too, black, push button on the outside...
