| Measure Twice, Cut Once | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The next step in making your CAI, is taking some measurements off of your own parts/car. I have included the numbers that worked for me, but as with anything automotive: your mileage may vary. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Measuring for the Pipe | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The most critical measurement is the distance from the outlet of the MAF to the inlet of the throttlebody. This measurement will become the length of the PVC pipe that forms the body of your CAI. In my case, I came up with 9-3/4" from the outlet of the Pro-M 75mm Bullet to the inlet of the 65mm throttle body I installed on my Cobra intake. Take the MAF and elbow assembly that you made from the last page and hold it in the engine bay so that the elbow is inside the fenderwell. Measure from the middle of the t-body and MAF lips so that you can port the inside of the pipe to fit over them. Write this measurement down for the length to cut your PVC pipe. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 1. I found the IAT to be about 5/8" in diameter 2. The Stock MAF lip to be 84 mm 3. The Pro-M Bullet's lip to be 77 mm 4. Both the stock throttlebody and the FRPP 65mm one were 83mm |

| Constructing the Tube | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1. Using the length from the throttlebody to the MAF outlet from above, cut a piece of PVC pipe to length. 2. I found it benificial to cut the throttlebody end at an angle such that the cut slopes inward 1/2" from the top to the bottom. It is easiest to use one of the hose clamps to as a guide to mark the uneven cirlce. 3. The "top" of the pipe is the longest part. 4. Drill two 5/8" holes on opposite sides of the pipe for the breather and the IAT sensor. The IAT should be 2 1/2 inches from the bottom and the breather should be about 3 1/2 inches from the top. 5. Force the PVC grommet into the hole 6. Thread the hole for the IAT either with a bolt the same size and thread pitch as the IAT or with a Tap. 7. screw the IAT into it's place. 8. Port each end of the tube to a slightly bigger size as the outer diameter of the throttlebody and the MAF. 9. Clean the shavings out of the tube. 10. Now you are ready for a trial fit. |
