Capernwray Harbour, summer '98
My first instrument was actually a guitar that a good friend gave me. It's an old beat up little thing (yes I still have it!) but it has a solid wood top and decent tone (see left). I took high school guitar lessons in Grade 8 and well, that's all the formal training I ever got! The rest I've learned on my own. I bought my first drum set from Mother's Music in '95 and had it for about a year until it was stolen (ugh!). I bought my replacement set a little while later (the Yamahas) and, fortunately, have been able to keep these! It was around this time that I was asked to play drums for a concert at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond. It was a variety show put on by the one of the student associations at UBC, an annual event called "Songs From the Heart" and we played to a packed out house!
Over the next few years and to this day I continued to play and develop my skill as part of the Fraserlands Alliance Church music ministry. In addition to playing on Sundays, we occasionally provide music for special events such as coffee houses (open houses), retreats, rallies, and our Annual "Evening In December", where everyone is invited to join us for singing and reflection on Christmas Eve. I have had the priviledge of playing before hundreds of people in many places, including the Michael J. Fox theatre in Richmond and in Whistler too. I've also played about a dozen weddings over the last few years!

In 2003 the United Way was looking for a band to play at the annual fundraiser party, a semi-formal affair, so in a matter of six weeks, I got a few friends together to play and so Negative Friction was born! It was awesome to play a mix of new songs (Santana, Sheryl Crow, Mariah, etc) and old songs (Beatles, Elvis) with a really great bunch. We hope to play more gigs in the future. Until then I guess we'll stick with weddings!

Audio Engineering - I first started recording original compositions for some friends on Cakewalk in 2002, and have since done a few dozen recordings for various friends, clients and organizations. So in 2004 I enrolled in PAVI and in September 2005 will earn my Diploma. For some audio samples, click on Portfolio.
