I took comfort in my family's response to the whole thing. All four of them, Mom, Dad, Kevin, and Lori, saw the divorce coming long before I did. They all saw the way I was treated at home with every visit, and each separately wondered aloud to me why it took me so long. If not for Catherine I would have left years earlier. I miss her so much, and think about her every single day. Dear readers, you already know the impact she's had on my life and my very existence. Knowing the personal disaster of divorce, I now take marriage very seriously. The choice of one's life-partner is more important than any other decision a person can make. Ayn Rand wrote that what tells you the most about a man is the type of woman he keeps at his side. (I'll have to reread Atlas Shrugged to get the exact quote.) Knowing this, why I've chosen to be with the women with whom I've been associated since my divorce simply baffles me. |
