The following week the OM came back to me with an explanation. I had two anniversary dates... one for vacation (January 7) and one for longevity and benefits (February 16). That being the case, I was not due vacation time nor was I due retro pay for my raise. For her, that was the end of the discussion. The next day I ran into the Site Director of APAC-La Crosse. I asked if I could have ten minutes of his time that day. He said he could... but never did. That prompted a letter I wrote on September 10, addressed to the Site Director, Operations Manager, and each of the supervisors in the Harrah's campaign. I detailed my grievance, reminded them of all the positive things I'd done for my coworkers, and gave them two pay periods to find a way to get me paid either my vacation time or my retro pay (I wasn't asking for both... I didn't deserve both), or else I would leave APAC and file legal action. I shared the letter with a half-dozen of my coworkers and they were all impressed with my writing. A week passed before any of the recipients of the letter had any response for me. The OM let me know that I had no standing to bring legal action against the company, and according to policy they were within their rights to hold two anniversary dates for me. For her, that was the end of the discussion. I let Darci, our Team Lead Assistant and the head of the auditing staff, know that she needed to find a new auditor for the night shift, that according to the OM I wasn't going to be paid. I told Darci that I would keep schedule with the letter in that I was waiting until my second paycheck to put in my two weeks' notice... hoping that someone in management would get his or her head out of his or her ass and do what was fair. |
