On the first day of school before classes had started, my room filled with students welcoming me back. The goddesses, Hannah, Andrea, Ashley, and Beth, plus Noel and one other student I hadn't even had yet presented me with a gift... a Shakespeare tie to remind me of all the quotes they had put up on my board the year before. Gifts from students I was starting to get used to... but on the first day?!? Again, my heart was touched. Also during the day Matt brought me a gift of a bottle of Jones Soda, a brand he'd seen out in South Dakota vacationing with his family. The unopened bottle adorned my classroom every day after that.

I had made arrangements to have a sub for the first two hours of class that Thursday so I could accompany Kari to our ultrasound and check-up. A very hard-working student and one of my favorites, Lindsay, saw me at the football game that Friday night and said, "Every single mom in Holmen is crying tonight now that you're taken." I shook my head and replied, "No single mom in Holmen ever seemed interested at all... I guess they all had their chance!"

While I was away at the game, Kari was out as well. The rehearsal dinner for the wedding was Friday, then she stayed overnight at the bride's home. She went to the wedding Saturday and came home late Saturday night. I was anxious to hear how everything went, but again all I received was silence.
