13 Seasons in Hell
Friday 25 July 2003 Things to do today and not much time to write, so just a few real-time adventures. Two days ago as I was walking to work, I passed the newly-built skate park in Onalaska when I heard, "Mr. Jones!" I turned to see who yelled it out when I heard another "Mr. Jones!" and a third "Mr. Jones!" It was three former students, Eric, Adam, and Anthony popping down to see me. Each shook my hand as we made small talk about how summer was going. They each said they missed me and I said the same to them. That night when I was walking home, a car passed me and I heard, "Jones!" It was Brian and a buddy of his, off cruising. They turned the car around and stopped at the roadside to talk with me for a few minutes. Brian and I have emailed back-and-forth a bit this summer. We both said how good it was to see each other. Yesterday after writing my journal entry at the library, on my way out I saw Bobbi. We both smiled very brightly and gave each other a tight hug. She is probably the coolest kid in the upcoming senior class, and great things will become of her if she desires. We talked briefly about how much we missed each other and promised to keep in touch. Last night I got a ride home, then walked down to the local tavern for a beer to finish off the day. (It was one of those kind of days.) As I walked down the sidewalk a car sped past. A female head popped out the passenger window and yelled out, "Mr. Jones! I love you!" Another former student, but they went by so quickly I never had a chance to see who it was. This morning on my way to the library Sam, another student, drove by and yelled out "Jones!" We talked for a few minutes... we'll probably talk again later when I see him at work. It's nice to know I've made an impact. |
