When at the library writing yesterday a former student of mine, Tiffany, saw me, hugged me, and said hello for a bit. She was one of my favorites, and that first year teaching I had her in class every day... first semester for Geometry, and second semester for Algebra II. Tiffany was a very hard worker, popular among her classmates, and had a penchant as one who calls 'em like she sees 'em. Early in the second semester when speaking of my break-up with Yvonne, Tiffany broke up the entire class (including myself) when just blurting out, "Get over her, Jones! She's just a skanky ho!" Mind you, I never have thought of Yvonne that way (neither then nor now), but hearing someone else say it's not right to date one person while being engaged to another really did make me feel a bit more righteous.

From January to March 2001, Yvonne and I would keep in contact... mostly me calling or chatting with her. She wasn't quite ready to take the next step in her relationship with her new friend, saying she was still carrying a torch for me. The ex-boyfriend was finally out of the picture (probably because there was a new one there). One day in March Yvonne and I were online and the subject of fidelity came up. I was what was the longest amount of time she was faithful to me. She answered four or five months.

At long last, I was vindicated. I reminded her that we were engaged for ten months... that when she was seeing the ex "as a friend" because she had "no one else" with whom to do things, at least once during that period the "nothing" that was going on between them was a lie. It was no wonder he kept hanging around, despite the engagement. She was livid that I was accusing her of being unfaithful to me... but I told her she was the one who had finally admitted the truth. She said she'd never speak with me again.
