William GLADMAN, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Ann GLADMAN was born in London c.1802. On the 22th of February 1822 he was Tried at the Middlesex Gaol Delivery  for stealing two yards of canvas value 1s., and a sack value 1s., the goods of Benjamin HULL of Stepney, Middlesex. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation. At the time he was living with his mother, a washer woman, at Kingsland Road, and his trade was an Errand boy with a cart, working for John Kimbley, of Shoreditch, near London. He was described as, 20 years of age, 5' 1 3/4" in height with light brown hair and eyes. He was on the "Retribution" hulk at Sheerness before being  transported on the 26th of April 1823 to Van Diemans Land, aboard the "Commodore Hayes", arriving at Hobart Town on the 16th of August 1823. The voyage had taken 112 days and 3 of the 219 male convicts aboard had died at sea.
    On the 29th of April 1834 at Brighton, Tasmania, William married Rhoda HURST, daughter of William HURST and Mary KEEP from the Parish of Green Point ,Tasmania William and Rhoda were to have 16 children in all, Thomas, Elizabeth Ann, Sarah Ann, Samuel, William, twins Frederick and Alfred, Emma, Mary, Joseph, Henry, Charles, John, James, Robert Leslie, and Eliza Ann.
    William, Rhoda and their family left Tasmania and sailed across to Victoria, sometime between 1849 and 1851, there they made their home in Winchelsea, 23 miles west of Geelong. William died on the 12th of December 1885 at Winchelsea, the cause of his death was "Cirrhosis Hepatitis", of which effects he is thought to have  suffered from for a couple of years. Rhoda died on the 6th of April 1894 also at Winchelsea. Both are buried at the Winchelsea Cemetery.

    THOMAS, born 17th april, 1833, Tasmania.  we have no further information on him.
    ELIZABETH ANN, born 19th December, 1834,Bridgewater, Tasmania, she married Isaac BODDINGTON on the 16th March, 1852, at the Church of Scotland, Geelong, Victoria. They had 4 children. Photo
 SARAH ANN, born 19th July, 1836, Tasmania, married Thomas BROWN in 1854.They had 10 children. Photo
   SAMUEL, born 14th July, 1838, Tasmania,  married Mary Jane MOCKRIDGE ( his 1st wife) on the 31st July, 1859.  They had 1 child. 2nd wife was Victoria LEAKE, they married on the 18th May, 1897. No children Photo
   WILLIAM, born 27th March, 1840, Tasmania,  married Jane ALSOP, ( daughter of John ALSOP  and Leah HURST younger sister of Rhoda) on the 28th August, 1872. They had  7 children.
   FREDERICK, a twin was born in 1842, Tasmania, married Ruth Matilda BRAY on the 14th June, 1864 at Winchelsea, Victoria. They had 11 children. Photo
 ALFRED, a twin was,  born 1842, Tasmania, married Ann Elizabeth DICKESON on the 28th August, 1866, at Muston's Creek, Victoria. They had 11 children. Photo
    EMMA, born 9th May 1843, Bridgewater, Tasmania, she lived only 4 years 6 months, dying  of convulsions on the 17 November, 1847, Hobart, Tasmania.
 MARY, born  9th October, 1844, Tasmania, married Thomas HOLE on the 14th June, 1864 at  St. Thomas's Church of England, Winchelsea, Victoria. They had 12  children.   Photo
  JOSEPH, born 2nd August, 1847, Tasmania, he married Angelina MORGAN on the 1st March, 1872 at St. Thomas's Church of England, Winchelsea, Victoria. They had 13 children.
 HENRY, born 14th May, 1848, Launceston, Tasmania, married Margaret MORGAN (sister of Angelina, Joseph's wife) on the 2nd  July, 1872, at St. Thomas's Church of England, Winchelsea. They had 2 children.
   CHARLES, born 1849 at Launceston, Tasmania, married Sarah Jane MORGAN, (younger sister of Angelina & Margaret) on the 9th August, 1875, Winchelsea, Victoria. They had 1 child.
   JOHN, born 1851 at Geelong, Victoria, married Isabel Maldon CAMPBELL on the 15th September, 1880 at St. Thomas's Church of England, Winchelsea. They had 2 children.
   JAMES, born 5th March, 1853 at Winchelsea, married his cousin Mary ALSOP (younger sister of Jane, Williams wife) in 1880 at Geelong, Victoria. They had 7 children.
 ROBERT LESLIE, born 7th March, 1855 at Winchelsea, Victoria, married Rose Mary MORGAN (younger sister of Angelina, Margaret and Sarah Jane) on the 20th April, 1880, at Winchelsea. They had 12 children. Photo
  ELIZA ANN, born  4th June, 1858, at Winchelsea, married William Charles BENNETT, on the 4th June, 1878 at St. Thomas's Church of England, Winchelsea. They had 9 children. Photo
