| Styles There are two Olympic styles of Wrestling: - In Greco-Roman wrestlling, a wrestler may not attack his opponet's legs, nor use his own legs to trip, lift or execute other moves. The wrestler must wrestle from standing without the top of his head against his opponent's chest. -In Freestyle wrestling, both the arms and legs may be used to execute holds or to defend against an attack -Folkstyle wrestling is the most common type of wrestling in the U.S. It is the type of wrestling used in high schools and college. Folkstyle is similar to freestyle wrestling but the scoring differs. |

| Basics - High school wrestling matches consist of 2-minute periods - Wrestlers compete in weight classes - The match begins with both wrestlers standing in the middle of the mat facing each other (this is called neutral posistion and no one has control) - If the wrestlers go out of bounds and neither wrestler has scored a takedown, both wrestlers return to the center of the mat and continue wrestling in neutral posistion - If the go out of bounds and one wrestler has scored a takedown, both wrestlers return to the center of the mat in referee's position, with the wrestler in control in the top posistion and the other wrestler in the bottom posistion -The wrestler who is losing at the end of the first period has the choice of the posistion (top,bottom, neutral or defer), the other wrestler has the choice at the end of hte second period. |

| Winning a Match > A Wrestler may win a match by: - Scoring a fall (pinning an opponent's shoulders to the mat for 2 seconds) - Scoring a technical fall (having 15 more pionts than the opponent, the match is stopped) - Scoring more points than the opponent - The opponent is disqualified, injured or forfeits |
