| In September of 2003, I began a Docent Training Class at The Utica Zoo (Steele Hill Road, Utica). A docent is a volunteer who teaches. I have had close-up encounters with many animals that are part of the education collection, including the ball python (Lizzie is my favorite!), the chinchillas, the dumbo rats, a corn snake, a kinkajou, hedgehogs, a sugar glider, a blue-tongue skink, Himalayan rabbit, ferrets, and many more! | Mendon Ponds Park | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My husband's parents live in Honeoye Falls, New York, which is just south of Rochester. On Easter Sunday, 2003, Nate brought me to Mendon Ponds Park while we were visiting his parents. He took me on a nature trail hike around the main pond. You can feed wild birds sunflower seeds right out of your hands there! It's truly amazing to have these tame birds greet you so heartily! If you are ever in the area, you should definitely visit this park. Don't forget your sunflower seeds! Take an online tour of some scenery in the park by clicking here. | Look! I'm kissing a chimpanzee! This isn't at the Utica Zoo, but I thought it would be appropriate with the Utica Zoo "stuff." I think I'm about 3 yrs. old in this picture, and I think this is at Lake George's Frontier Town, but I'm not sure. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Who doesn't love to camp? (Me, if there's no bathroom available, that's who.) Fortunately, Pixley Falls has bathrooms, a quiet place to camp AND beautiful scenery! Of course, this place is especially memorable to me because this is where Nate proposed to me! ("Awwww. . .") Don't worry, I said yes. This is my favorite place to camp, and one of my favorite places to hike. The falls are gorgeous any time of year, and the hike through the woods is full of Kodak moments! | Maybe the reason I feel so comfortable as a docent is because I AM a teacher! I began teaching elementary school in September of 1999, and have been teaching ever since! I worked for three years in the Catholic Schools before being hired by Oriskany Central Schools. I am currently a fourth grade teacher at N.A. Walbran Elementary School. | I bet you thought you were going to get away with not having to see any pictures of me on this page, didn't you? WRONG! Here is a picture of me snow shoeing on the HCCC nature trail. My husband helped rebuild the nature trail in the summer of 2003. He works at HCCC as the Dead Cat Man (lab science tech; same thing) 10 months a year. Although this link doesn't have many pictures of the area where the nature trail is, it's the official site of Herkimer County Community College, where I graduated. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
