The Advantages And Disadvantages of The Network Topology
Type Of Network
Advantages
Disadvantages
Bus
1. Inexpensive and easy to install.
2. Failure of one device does not affect the rest of the network.
1.A break in the backbone will prevent all systems from accessing the network.
2, Difficult to identify the problem if entire network shut down.
Ring
1. All computers have equal access to the resources in the network.
2. Cable faults are easily located, troubleshooting easier.
3. Data packet are flowing in one direction at high speed.
1. A failure in any cable/device breaks the loop and can take down the entire network.
2. More difficult to install.
3. Data packets must pass through every computer therefore, it is slower.
Star
1. If one device (pc/printer) fails, only that device is affected.
2. Easy to troubleshoot and isolate problems.
3. Devices can be added or removed without no disruption.
1. If the hub/switch fails, the entire network will be malfunction.
2. Requires more cables than most of other topologies.
