Welcome to FAE RUELLE'S domain,
Dimension X, where the strangest things happen.
Right now you are at the Spellcaster's Desk, a
mysterious desk in the corner of an unusual room.
You see a leather-bound book open on the desk,
and you begin to read...
YAOI IS... >>>----------------------------------------------------------- So what is yaoi, this ever elusive topic? Yaoi, something many people hate, yet many people have learned to cherish? What is its charm, its spunk, its...originality? Yaoi, basically, is a look on the more sexual part of a male-male relationship. It is an acronym for "yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi" which, when translated, means "no climax, no point, no meaning." It means that when viewed, the basic view of the male-male relationship is that it is purely fun, no feelings exchanged. Later, a new phrase was coined-- "shounen-ai." Translated, it means "boy-love." Shounen-ai focuses more on character and feeling, and how the characters' love develops through the story. Modern yaoi these days is basically a mix of both yaoi and shounen-ai, or just purely yaoi, a sexual relationship. So why yaoi? Why this inexplicable fan-following of this strange subject? For some, it is purely fun and a way to meet new people and exchange ideas. But if you've noticed (or haven't), most yaoi fans are female, while most yuri, the female equivalent of yaoi, fans are male. So many females like yaoi because it is their view, opinion, fascination of how the opposite gender works, and in accordance with others of the same gender. As for me, the concept of yaoi had to grow on me a bit. A friend first introduced the coupling of Hiei and Kurama as I gradually got obsessed with Yu Yu Hakusho, and I must admit, I thought she was out of her mind. I mean, two guys in a relationship together? How much stranger could you get?? But the problem with most straight people are is that they don't realize gays are actual people. They reject homosexuals because it's not what they're used to; it's alien and totally against the laws of Mother Nature. Male and Female, Dark and Light, all the opposites go together, not the same things. It upheaves the total foundation of human society, and they don't accept it. But being more open-minded than most (I flatter myself ^_^), I allowed my friend to completely run over my view of the world. I allowed her to thoroughly submerge me in a tidal wave of yaoi fics, introduce me to yaoi writers, and discuss with me just how perfect Hiei and Kurama were together, even if they were of the same gender. And then I got used to it. Heck, it seems right now. I realized love, real love, goes beyond such boundaries as gender. Now, I can't stop talking about yaoi. Yaoi, yaoi, yaoi. I write it, I read it, I drink it. It's not like I'm completely averse now to the normal, hetero pairing, but yaoi's allowed me a whole new perspective to the world. It may sound silly, but it's helped me see things new ways that I've never even imagined before. Be more open-minded. Meet new friends. Find new hobbies. And that's what I hope this random, nonsensical article helps you to do. See the world like never before, and more importantly.... LOVE YAOI!!!!! XD XD (C) Copyrighted 2006 by Fae Ruelle. Please don't steal; she's really poor already. That's why she could only afford this dinky little dimension instead of the other grandiose ones. |
