Week Seven

This week session Dr. Siva starting the class introducing Mr. Alan Larkin, one of the lecturers in the course of Master Educational Management. Today he came to our class as a visiting lecturer for the first session of the class. He discussed the power of Tutoring System though the Microsoft Flight Simulator.  He demonstrated how the system of Microsoft Flight Simulator works and impresses people who are interested in flying. Because this system is really marvelous, it looks like someone was controlling and flying a real plane. Something that I noticed from his demonstration is that the system consists of a large number of data: airports in different countries, variety of weather and several types of planes. These data support the system interaction when they are required by the users.
After the break, Dr. Siva continued the second session of the class. He discussed the concept of AI-Artificial intelligence. He explained more about AI and ITS. He presented reading materials by Sharples, Hogs, Hethinson, Torrance and Young (1994). These articles discussed combination of three academic disciplines in AI. These include psychology (cognitive modeling), philosophy (philosophy of mind), and computer science to get below the surface of human behavior, to discover the processes, systems and principles that make intelligent behavior possible. Computers are tools for modeling these mental states and process. (Sharples et al, 1994). The authors also asset AI model does not constitute a proof of any claim concerning psychological function, but it can be used to generate new hypotheses, and to test the adequacy of existing theories. And Each time we try, we fail, to build and accurate replica of some small part of cognition, we affirm the power of the human mind. (Sharples et al, 1994).
