The Creator
Heppoko Jikken Animation Excel Saga is an anime based on the cult manga by Koshi Rikudo (pronounced Koshi Rikdo). He started his new manga Arahabaki on Ultra Jump (Shueisha) this spring. As far as I know, these are his only commercial works, however, he sells his doujinshi at comike every summer/winter.
The Seiyuu
The main character, Excel, is played by Mitsuishi Kotono - who you may know from Evangelion as Misato, or, more tellingly, Mink from Dragon Half.
The Names
Many of the names in the series are taken from hotels in Fukuoka City. We have Il Palazzo (Italian for 'The Palace'), Hyatt and, naturally Excel.
The Show
The series is the latest from the creators of Kodocha & Cowboy Bebop, at J.C.Staff, and it aired weekly on TV Tokyo at 1:15AM from 07/Oct/99 to 04/Apr/00.
The Manga
The manga ran in Young King Ours magazine alongside Geobreeders. Six tankoubon are available.
