When I joined at post-graduate study in print making
some other ideas stirred my conception. I noticed what is happening now
in contemporary art scene, both in my country and in outside. Those
values which we praised so highly, and considered them as unchangeable
is now ignored so easily. Such one thing is the ‘Identity’ of the
artist. The image of the artist, or the ego has been rejected so easily
by the dada, pop or conceptual artists. Instead of making a style as an
identity they used ready-mades or found images objects so often. I feel
wondered when I found similar approaches in Traditional or the popular
Indian art (such as in
popular prints of various religious icons).
Because I had no conventional practice of printmaking
before joining my post-graduate study, at first it seemed much hazardous
process to me. At first I started with Lithograph, but very soon
frustrated by the complexity of methods, and took etching. In etching or
the intaglio method I got some confidence and managed to proceed my
work. Later I gain started in Lithography and I enjoyed it very much.
After finishing my course It became quite difficult
for me to continue print-making because it demands an well equipped
studio and apparatus which I could not arranged. But with the help of
computer I started to work digital prints. I took scanned images of my
drawings or paintings and modified it with image editing software like Photoshop
etc. Here are some of those also.
Though I can not continue my practice in conventional
print-making media but the experiences of my print-making study heavily
influenced my practice and my understanding of Art.
