Spawning Bettas
Pages
You will need a spawning tank, I use a 1 and foot tank divided, many of my other freinds use larger tanks, the decision is just up to you.  I place a heater in the thoroughly cleaned spawning tank a floating breeder which can be purchased at you Local Fish or Pet Store and half a styraphome cup, this is for the male to build a nest beneath. After i have conditioned the pair, this is simpley done by feeding live foods for 1-2 weeks and keeping the water clean, I place the male in the tank first and allow him to get used to his new tank.  I leave him overnight. If your male is good at nests he might make one during the night I also make sure there is plenty of live plants in the tank. Java Ferns and Java Moss are my favorites.

If the female is truly ready she will begin to show virticle bars along her sides, and also begin to flare back at the male.  She should also be full of roe.  This is when i add her to her own compartment, (the floating breeder) If she begins to flare back at the male I allow 1 night for him to start on a nest and then i release her.  She should follow the male and he may bite her but as long as it isnt too suvere I leave her in.  Eventually the female will follow the male under the nest and they will embrace.
