| GOOD BOOKS This is just a random list of books that I like a lot, sorry that it's disorganized... New additions: Edith Pattou--Hero's Song and Fire Arrow are great (Fire Arrow's better but it's the second book in the series) and then there's East, which is new, it's really really great also. Happily, she is "hard at work" on the Third Song of Eirren (that's what the first two books are from) Celia Rees--Witch Child's her best, but Sorceress, its sequel, is good, and I quite liked Pirates! Firebirds is great, it's an anthology of fantasy by "today's leading fantasy writers"...like Diana Wynne Jones, and Sherwood Smith, and Garth Nix, and lots more, though they left Tamora Pierce out--the first story in it is REALLY great Garth Nix--Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen * * * * * * Tamora Pierce -Tortall books in particular, Song of the Lioness quartet especially (Lost exact count around 10, vague count around 20 times having read SotL) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Lord of the Rings-OF COURSE...and I loved The Silmarillion...speaking of which, I want to reread that so badly Juliet Marillier's books, Sevenwaters Trilogy and Wolfskin, Daughter of the Forest is the very best Elizabeth Haydon's Symphony of Ages Harry Potter-given I guess...why did she stupid have to stupid kill him????????? The Chosen by Chaim Potok is good, even though we read it for school Sherwood Smith-especially Crown Duel and Court Duel, but also the Wren books City of the Beasts, by Isabel Allende, even though it's a cheesy title Louise Rennison- The Georgia books (Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, etc) quite good Have to say it, sorry Emma: L.M. Montgomery (for the unintelligent...I mean -informed, the author of Anne of Green Gables) ...I recently reread the Emily books and being older means you understand so much more His Dark Materials-Philip Pullman These are SO GREAT Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan, even though it is still so incredibly long The Dragon Queen-Alice Borchardt (spelling?) Really good Guinevere story, first of trilogy, second is out (The Raven Warrior) haven't finished it yet Dragonriders of Pern-Anne McCaffrey Rosemary Sutcliff's pretty good Now I'm just grabbing for names, but more will come to me hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................... there are so many more really great books Victoria Hanley-The Seer and the Sword, I read it straight all the way through, and The Healer's Keep is really good too...but not as good Born Confused-Tanuja Desai Didier I think-really really good!! GOOD MOVIES: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King for obvious reasons. They are wonderful movies, if nothing compared to the books. Bend It Like Beckham is possibly my favorite movie. At least in French class it was. Pirates of the Caribbean Whale Rider is a beautiful movie. It's fabulous, it really is. |
