HOW TO REFORMAT YOUR HARD DRIVE BY SQUID I'm going to explain to you the process of reformating your hard drive ! 1/ MOST IMPORTANT ! The most important is to NOT lose any data. It would be so frustrating for you and the computer would then suffer from your kicks into its shakky skeleton ! So the first thing to do is to backup your data. Think of what kind of data you need to save, the amount of it, and especially where you will store it. It's an important decision, please think about that a lot, or you will regret it, that's for sure... * If you have at least two partitions on your hard drive, the easiest way to save your data would be to move it from the partition you're going to reformat (let's say C:) to the partition that will remain unchanged (let's say D:). Just copy and paste your stuff from C: to D:, better not cut/paste it, in case something wrong happens, better be careful in that process. You obviously need to make sure you have enough free space on that other partition. * Another safe way is to burn your data. This should be the safest actually. Simply burn all your important data. This is a quicky and easy process, and cheap, plus that'll force you to archive your files and sort them out, for quicker access in the future. * You could also transfer your data to amovible storage media, such as Zip or Jaz disks. This is very handy and fast. It's good to do that when you don't have too much to save (unless you have 2 Gb Jaz disks). * The last way I can think of is to move your data to some server online. There used to be many free storage spaces online before, but not anymore. You have to pay for them now, but if you have something like a Streamload and a fast Internet connection, it could be a convenient and secure way to keep your data safe. * (revision by koala 4/20/02 ) You could also transfer all your data, files etc to another computer on your LAN ( Local Area Network) or if you have access to one, a practically unused computer. Store your data there while you do the reformatting, I can recommend this because from my own experience when my computer wouldn't boot up correctly I didn't have the option of burning my data, since there was no way to get those progs running when a comp won't boot up correctly. |
