Stock Market Activity

Okay, so you hear a lot about the stock market. But what is the stock market? The stock market or "the market" is a place where you can invest money. That means you take money and buy things and hope that the things you buy are worth more later that what you paid for them today. The things you buy....stocks, of course.

Now, stocks are interesting. You can own a piece of a lot of the companies that you hear about. Some are companies that sell stuff you love to buy, like Nintendo and some you may not have heard of. A stock is a piece of that company.

When you buy a share of stock, you hope that the stock will increase in value. That's the whole game. If the stock increases, you make money. If the stock loses value or decreases, you lose money. So be careful which stocks you buy!!

So here's a little game we can play that can help you with decimals and percents.

First, go to the stock list and write down the company name and stock symbol of some companies.
