Monster Cookies
From my Auntie Vickie Guenther

My aunt used to send these to our family in our Christmas package by Greyhound every year and they were my favorite part!  When I went to Saskatoon for a visit a few years ago, I finally nabbed the recipe so I can make them myself.  Warning: makes A LOT of cookies!!!!

INGREDIENTS

Butter   2 cups
Brown sugar   4 cups
White sugar   4 cups
Peanut butter   6 cups
Eggs   1 dozen
Syrup   1 Tbsp
Vanilla   1 Tbsp

Oatmeal   13 cups
Baking soda   8 Tbsp

Chocolate chips   2 cups
Smarties   2 cups

METHOD

  • Get a really really huge bowl, roll up your sleeves and get ready for an arm workout.

  • Cream together butter, brown sugar and white sugar.

  • Add peanut butter and mix well.

  • Add eggs, syrup and vanilla and mix well.

  • Combine baking soda with the oatmeal and then mix with the other ingredients.

  • Stir and stir and stir.

  • Add the chocolate chips and Smarties and stir and stir and stir.

  • Drop batter onto cookie sheets (don't flatten) and bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.

NOTES

  • It's best to make these when there are two or more people around to help, because not only is there a lot of stirring, it takes FOREVER to actually bake all the cookies and juggle the cooling and packing etc.  It usually takes an entire afternoon.

  • I always double the chocolate chips and Smarties.  The chocolate is always the best part of any recipe, right?
