It's become way too surreal
All this pain you make me feel
Can't you put back the normalcy
Of what was once called "you and me?"
-- To a friend that I thought I once knew.
Everyone could see her attempts at perfection
But all of her tears went without detection
She tries to be the best of them all
But she's slowly, painfully starting to fall.
I'm constantly watched by your vigilant eyes
But you never hear my desperate cries
You're just waiting for me to fall
But soon I'll rise above it all
You searched my surface for a single flaw
But perfection was the only thing you saw
On the inside everything's a mess
You could find some things I'd never confess
You'd see a girl who's about to die
But she just wants to spread her wings and fly.
I didn't mean what I said
Now these thoughts are running through my head
I miss seeing your name with mine
And ever since we broke up I've been the farthest thing from fine
I've been holding on for so long
But now that you're gone I'm no longer strong
Now there's only one thing I need to say
I want you back 'cause nothing's okay.
She kept it all bottled up inside
Thought no one heard her when she cried
She would lay in her bed and stare at her walls
Trying to keep her head held high when it was about to fall
Everyone would try to break her down
And they'd turn her smile into a frown
It took a while, but in the end
She found someone she could call a true friend
He liked her for the person who she was
And managed to see past all the flaws
He always tells her to "move along!"
And it reminds her that one day she'll be strong
For now she's still trying to heal the scars
But she's going to smile as bright as the stars
He seems to know just what she'll do --
"Move along, move along just to make it through!"
-- To Bobby, my best guy friend in the entire world, the only person who's truly been there for me at all times, no matter what.

And, yes, he's read this poem before.
