Pick one, Dad said, as he threw me a list
Vegas shows written on a paper clutched in my fist
Magicians, Shakira, Yellowcard, and more
But only one caught my eye - Paramore.

I went to my sister and asked if shed mind
No way, she said in a voice that was very unkind
It was expected, of course - we rarely agree
But her unkindness still made me a little angry.

Determined to see Paramore, even though she said no
I checked their tour dates as I listened to Whoa
Yes  It was there - in only a week
Now permission from Dad was all I had to seek.

But before I did, I did a double take at the screen
And I noticed something that, before, I hadnt seen.
The band that was opening; I absolutely adore
It just happened to be Cute is What We Aim For

I flew down the stairs and asked if we could go
And I waited patiently, expecting a, no.
I did what I could to get him to say yes
But then my sister had to make it a mess.

You wont like it, its not your crowd, she tried to argue
But shed never been there, so were her words really true?
It took a week for his decision, and I held my breath as he said
If you want to bring some friends, go ahead

Friday arrived, and it was finally the day
Into the car we piled and Dad drove us away.
An hour later, we were at the place
Excited expressions plastered on everyones face.

This Providence and Hit the Lights werent that bad
But when Cute is What We Aim For came on, I was glad.
We had met the guitarist minutes before
They came on stage to a deafening roar.

I want someone provocative and talkative, but its so hard when youre shallow as a shower

The Curse of Curves was the song of the hour
Newport Living, Risque, Sweet Talk 101'
Then after Theres a Class for This they were done.

The curtains closed and everyone became tense
Our ears adjusting to the sudden deafness.
We waited patiently as Paramore prepared
The minutes passed by; at the curtains we stared.

It seemed as forever had passed, when
The curtains opened once again.
There was naught but darkness, black as night
When, from a hidden door, bobbed a single light.

Then she came out, lantern in hand
Followed by the rest of the band.
She went to the piano and pressed down on the keys
And began to play a haunting melody.

We all cheered loudly as the notes faded away
As the drummer and guitarists began to play
They began with Emergency, one of my favorite songs
If you thought Id leave then you were wrong.

This was, they told us, their eighth sold-out show
And then they played Never Let Go
Every song on their album, they said theyd play
So I was rather surprised when they walked away.

One missed song, my favorite of them all
Please dont go now, please dont fade away, I wanted to call.
But they came back and to their word, they stayed true
And sang,
This heart, it beats, beats for only you.

The music, the lyrics, they still drift through my mind
The unforgettable moments and songs intertwined
Sometimes a summer night and a Boston bar
Are all it takes to find what the best memories really are.
