Wowers, I can't beleive how long it has been since I wrote on here! Time is just flying I spose.
Well I am getting the whole accent thing down, learning to speak slow and omit any Aussie words and all that. I even find myself saying things like "work" the way these people do...scary stuff. It is most likely because my job requires me to call various people and the more exposure I am getting, the more I am subconsciencely adapting. (That word doesn't look right, but I can't be bothered finding out how to spell it)
I went to London and Windsor a few weeks back, the latter being the most south part of Ontario and a border of USA and Canada. Looking across the water I could see Detroit which was really nifty. Not for any reason but that I am not custom to beable to look across one place to another country. Then last weekend we went to Ottawa which was just the best. I loved it. If I could speak/write/read French it would be a cool place to live. So we saw the changing of the guard at Parliament Hill and went and did the Canadian War Museum. I wanted to do a tour through the parliament buildings, but we ran out of time. Then we crossed the border into Quebec (may aswell have been in another country!) and looked around at all the street signs I couldn't read. Walked around some shops trying to see if anyone spoke English, and got confused by the payphone that was explaining something to me in French. We then drove for about 90km to a friend's house there which is really out the back of nowhere and it was so beautiful. They even have deer that come to their bedroom window in winter and eat out of their hands! So even though we didn't want to, we left and came back to the grind of Toronto.
The weather is starting to get better (I say hesitantly watching some clouds roll pass). It is still extremely cold in the mornings, and I can't think of a single instance that I have gone to work without a jacket or jumper (sweater..whatever)
Now we are trying to save up alot of $$ and I have started to look into PEI and Jay is going to investigate Niagra. Looks like I won't be in Vancouver until the end of the year. It is just too hard to take time off work, and the flights are so terribly expensive at the moment. We have also put in the visa applications for Aus and should have an answer by end of September whether we can proceed with the medicals etc.
So all in all I'm having a good time, we get out and about quite a bit and have a really good lifestyle. It's just a pain being in 'limbo' as we don't want to settle in too much here if we are just going to leave in 5 months.
Anyhow, here's a pic of Windsor looking out to Detroit, I'll get some more pics soon of us when I get the film developed.
Until then....
