The Philippines Rediscovered The Philippines Rediscovered
by Stuart Naval Dee

Published January 1999
Harcover
Price $50.00

Born and raised as a child in the Phillippines before immigrating to Canada, the photographer returns after twenty years and has a unique perspective on this country. He has spent several months over the last five years covering dozens of places, from the bustling capital to remote, untouched wilderness areas, capturing more than 15,000 images. While he covered every region, the photographer wanted to create a more personal, intimate portrait of the country, and not the typical, tourist-oriented book nor the 'day in the life' photojournalistic coverage. He captures the stu nning beauty of the landscape and the quiet, simple beauty of the everydayscene. It is not a documentary but a celebration - the most beautiful boo k on the country. No other photographer can offer the same viewpoint. He alone has the combination of a native's natural affinity for the people, the country and its culture, and - because of his long absence - a "foreigner's" fascination and curiosity. Together with his sense of color and form, honed over the last fifteen years as a photographic artist, the body of images is truly unique - a personal impression. Through his fresh vision, foreigners and Filipinos alike 'rediscover' the Phillippines.

Short captions provide some interesting cultural, historical and anecdotalinformation. Foreword written by Corazon Aquino, the former Phillippine p resident who restored democracy to the Phillippines. Introduction written by Nick Joaquin, the National Artist and one of the most respected Filipino writers.
