Destinations in the Philippines

Travelling has always fascinated me. The wonder of discovering a place so unlike others is one of the most awe-inspiring things in life. That's why I've decided to share with you some of the places I've been to.

Coron

Coron Jagged

The massive, mountainous island, ancestral domain of the Tagbanua tribe, has craggy limestone sea cliffs which rise from the depths of the sea (from the valley floors to the water's edge), some 15 hidden lagoons, and seven lakes. Spread out before you are the isles within the area and the big island of Coron, the ecological showpiece, its mountain peaks looking like medieval fortresses from a distance.

Coron Top View There are beach coves, caves and dive sites, with the mountain peaks of the other islands of the Calamian Group--Culion and Limapacan--forming a background. The waters of Coron Bay are aquamarine when shallow and filled with coral beds, and dark blue when deep. The peaks in some cases rise to a height of over 400 meters. The bay gives way to a hidden lagoon and more craggy, limestone cliffs with wild vegetation and bonsai trees near the peaks, leading to Kayangan Lake, the most accessible of the island's lakes.

Coron White Beach

Numerous beach coves dot the island, with white sand and transparent shallow waters near the shore where families can swim and snorkel. There are other popular sites in and near Coron Island, including Barracuda Lake, Makinit Hot Springs, and the mangrove-rich CYC (named after the Coron Youth Club) Island.

Vigan

Vigan Cobbled Street Recently included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List, Vigan is located in the Northern part of the Philippines, Vigan is 408 kilometers northeast of Manila and includes area of the China Sea as a buffer zone on the western side of the town.

Vigan, earlier known as "Ciudad Fernandina" from 1758 to late 19th century, is the oldest surviving Spanish colonial city in the country. It has auspiciously escaped the bombs of World War II unlike its sister cities, Manila and Cebu. Being the only surviving colonial town in the country, Vigan has more strung along the narrow streets of the old Mestizo District, popularly known in the olden days as Kasanglayan

Vigan Church Vigan brings images of antiquated houses, cobbled narrow streets, calesas and friendly faces peering out of large windows; a place where "time stood still". Yet, despite all the romantic images this place provokes, much is still unfamiliar about Vigan.
