A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers

One of the most exciting books I have read in a long time. Don't be afraid of the length or the slow start, it's worth the read!

Hadassah is a Jewish captive that is taken to Rome as a slave. The book follows her from a frightened young Christian girl to the woman of faith she becomes as she serves a Roman girl desperate in her pursuit of pleasure and happiness. Hadassah's quiet calm in the midst of the turmoil of the family is a testament to the God she serves, and the Messiah she believes in wholeheartedly. As her owner sinks deeper into depravity, a love begins to grow between Hadassah and the older brother in the family. This surprises and confuses both of them. Will she be able to deny her own love for Marcus because he does not share her faith? And what would happen to her timidity should the day come she was forced to choose between freedom and happiness or a cruel death?

This is not a read to take lightly. It puts the Christian on the spot, realizing how spoiled and Roman-like our culture and even our churches have become. When the time comes for us to stand apart and claim Christ at all cost, will WE be ready to choose Him?
