Book Recommendations - I loved them, you might enjoy them too:
The Last Sin Eater by Francine Rivers

Set in the mid 1800's in the Appalacian mountains, "Sin Eater" brings to life the story of a young girl plagued by guilt and tragedy, and a man who has give his life over to a lie. When the truth comes to the surface, will they find the grace needed to repair the deep wounds that have been caused by sin?
Chronicles of the Kings series by Lynn Austin (Gods and Kings, Song of Redemption, Strength of His Hand, Faith of My Fathers, Among the Gods)

Follow the lives of three kings that lived in Israel hundreds of years before Christ. The Old Testament will come to life as you realize that the individuals recorded in the books of Kings and Chronicles were real people, and you will see God more clearly in the events that surrounded their reigns.
The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey

Yancey brings to our attention the problem we have in our Christian circles and churches today. We have lost sight of who Jesus Christ really is. If we truly took the time and effort necessary to find out who He is, would we be uncomfortable with Him? Would He fit into the life we have created for ourselves? Or would we discover what the Christian life is meant to be?

A must read for today's Christians.

The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers

A young and naive Christian college girl finds herself in the unthinkable position. Pregnant by a rapist. As her life falls apart around her, she looks to the Lord to see why He allowed such a thing to happen, and what He would have her do. Decisions you may or may not think easy to make in this situation will cause you to rethink what God really says about the unborn child, and what He expects from those that would live according to His standard of forgiveness, love, and mercy.
And the Shofar Blew by Francine Rivers

Can you see a pattern here? Yes, she's my favorite author. And you'll see why if you read any of her books.

This novel hit close to home as it explored the life of a young pastor and his family, just setting out to do the ministry that God had called them to. But how easy is it for a shepherd to lose his way? And what happens to the sheep that are hurt as a result? Find out why God is interested in the heart of a church, not the number of people sitting in the pews.
At the Scent of Water by Linda Nichols

In this deeply moving novel, Linda weaves her characters expertly to tell a story you won't soon forget. Two parents cross paths while trying to forget the past, and discover that God is big enough to deal with our heartache even when we can't.

This novel was hard to read as a parent of young children. The thought that something could happen to them is excruciating. But the tender way that Linda Nicols tells her stories keeps you reading to the very last page. She has a gift of character development that I envy with all of my being.

Windsor's Child by Thomas M. Parsons

Take an interesting and intimate journey back to the mid-twentieth century in the true story of a child's quiet observation of his family. Tragedy, heartache and loss surround his small house as he looks on. Grow with him to adulthood to put together the pieces and discover what it means looking back.

Parsons tells his story with care and detail. The decades spent in the pastorate, writing and teaching are obvious. "Windsor's Child" won fourth place out of over 150 entries recently in a national contest sponsored by Zondervan. It will be available from Trafford this month. (3/07)
