If you dont feel like having a dancing party and would prefer to chat then mellow music like enigma is good and at a softer level.

it is important to judge the timing right, people never feel like dancing straight away. I usually use mood builder music then, fun stuff that people dont know too well or theme stuff to create the atmostphere while people are arriving. then once a good amount of people have arrived, hellos have been said and we all have a drink and have caught up the fun music comes out with a ripstarter and we all crank it up and dance! when more people come (dont expect them to be on time!) they will enter into a precharged atmosphere. there is a point in every party where things are winding down, people are beginning to head off start playing calmer mellow music that is soothing and relaxing. people who have brought in music to actually listen to often play their stuff here and we sit on the floor and listen, this is a great part of the evening and should not be treated like the end.
