After a 9 year absence, the Formula One Circus finally returned to the U.S. at Indianapolis Speedway, one of the premier motorsport facility in the world. Rather than race on the famed 4 turn oval that both Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 run on, F-1 cars were to run on a 13 turn circuit which combined the main straight, Turn 1 (Turn 13), and a newly designed infield road course, but with the cars running clockwise, the opposite direction!

In order to satisfy the requirements of Formula One and its demanding boss Bernie Ecclestone, the pit area was modified extensively to house indoor garages, luxury suites, and a brand new pagoda. This was in addition to the modification to the infield road course! It's been said that the entire project took about two years to complete at an undisclosed sum, probably millions and millions of dollars. And now, I was going to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
