The man who came up with the name Boss 302 was stylist Larry Shinoda, pulled away from General Motors by Semon "Bunkie" Knudsen, a former Pontiac chief and GM executive VP who defected to Ford to become president when he got passed up for the GM presidency. Boss 302, introduced in 1969, was Ford's answer to Camaro Z/28 in SCCA TransAm racing series. Although the 1969 Boss 302 showed a lot of promise by winning the first 3 out of 5 races, it won no more races that year. In 1970, with drivers Parnelli Jones and George Follmer, Boss 302 dominated TransAm with 6 wins, 5 seconds, and 4 thirds, culminating in Parnelli Jones winning the driver championship over Mark Donohue's AMC Javelin by 1 point. Thanks to SCCA homologation rules, Ford enthusiasts can enjoy the street Boss 302, a high-revving, solid handling, well-balanced race-bred Mustang.

What about Boss 351 and Boss 429?
